Richard Levels

Abilene, Texas - Richard Lee "Dickie C" Levels, 57, died Thursday, November 8, 2007, in Abilene at his residence. He was born January 25, 1950 to Lottie (Jackson) Levels and Martin "Slim" Dorsey in Abilene, Texas. Richard was a graduate and star athlete of Abilene High School where he played football and ran track. He graduated in 1969.

During high school, Richard started his career with the City of Abilene as a summer lifeguard at Stevenson Pool. After graduation he began working fulltime at the City Water Department. He retired in 1996 after 27 years of service to the citizens of Abilene. Dickie C was a beloved brother and friend.

He is survived by two daughters, Sha-meen Curl of Burke, VA, and Tammie Fareed and husband Akil of Ellenwood, GA; sisters, Ann Fitzgerald Dorsey of Abilene, Doretha Schaffer of Abilene, Linda Ward and husband Thomas of Strong, AR, and Myrtle McGee of Abilene; two brothers, J.C. Levels of Tucson, AZ and Leonard Taylor of Abilene; 5 grandchildren, Ajari Alston, Omar Alston, Kevin Humphrey, Janan Fareed, and Adari Fareed; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Johnnie Mae Brown.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 15, at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Reverend Aaron Mackey officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

what a guy? dickie "C" as i called him we grew up together when i transferred to abilene high from woodson high school i made the track team.we was on the 440 relay team i would run 1st leg & he ran 4th leg & belive me the guy was like a streak of lighting.we had a great team that year of 1969.well of course buddy rawls was our coach that year.enough said.that was one of the best year's of my life.we had great team mates people's like steve ripley,mike patton, elgin baldwin,don brown just to name a few.Richard will be truely missed.i did go to his funeral service & you could tell by the turn out he was a well liked guy.may the good lord continue to be of blessing to his family as well as all of his classmates & friend's......BILLY "BUCK" STEVENSON

When we first move Abilene I was 7years old. I remember
Richard(alias Dickie C.was the first kid we met. He played, with my brother. He will be truly missed.

Richard was one of my favorite friends. He was loyal and true. He was loved.
