In Memory

Kathy Schroeder (Ashorn)

Kathy Schroeder (Ashorn)

Kathleen Elizabeth Schroeder was born November 20, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio to Major Edward James and Alice Dufour Schroeder. Her family settled in Abilene, Texas in 1960, where she remained for the entirety of her life. Kathy graduated from Abilene High School in 1969 and, after spending several years raising her young children, worked at Hendrick Medical Center as the mothercare unit desk clerk. An organized and meticulous worker, she took great pride in her 41 year career at Hendrick.

Kathy possessed a sharp wit, a keen sense of style, and a biting sense of humor. She was as headstrong an individual as ever has lived. She had a lifelong soft spot for strays of all sorts, and took comfort in the company of her cat, Harry, in her final years. Kathy’s greatest source of pride was her children and, especially, her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen is survived by her children Teresa (Richard) Whisnant of Nokomis, FL, Kevin (Lesley) Watson of Prosper, TX, and Amy (Kyle) McMillan of Austin, TX; grandchildren Brittney, Kameron, Hannah, Kaelan, Mason, Lily, Cooper, Scarlett, Liam, Max, and Hazel; great-granddaughters Eva and Eden; brother Edward Schroeder of San Antonio; sisters Debby Castro of Scottdale, AZ and Bonnie Harrison of Abilene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Kathy’s name.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at a later time.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the caring team at Hendrick Hospice Care, specifically Lana, Tamera, Jamie, Krissy, Kaylan, Becky, Stephanie and Gracie, and to ICU nurse Erin at Hendrick South for their compassion in her final days.
