Joy Tolle

Joy is another of our classmates we lost before our 1999 reunion.  If anyone has further information, please post it or email it so it can be posted.

Way back in our junior high school days, Joy had a Daschound puppy, named Buffy. About that time, my parents were looking for a puppy for my younger sister, Debbie. When Joy learned of this, she offered to give Buffy to Debbie. Well, when Debbie laid eyes on Buffy, it was love at first sight. From that moment on, Buffy became an integral member of our family. Unfortunately, one of Buffy’s vices was his love of chasing cars. After many years of practicing his car chasing skills, the car finally won and Buffy went to doggie heaven. To make matters worse, we were all standing in our front yard and witnessed his horrible demise. Debbie cried for weeks over her poor little Buffy. I don’t think Joy ever knew how much happiness she helped bring to our family, by unselfishly giving Buffy to us. Joy was a tender soul, and had a big heart. I understand why her parents named her “Joy”…it was most fitting. She is missed. Perhaps Joy and Buffy were reunited in heaven, and are running in the clouds together, without a worry. *smile*

Joy died in 1993 at her home in Abilene. She was married twice, and her first huband's last name was Boggs, but I cannot remember the second. I looked in the obits but could not find one. She was buried in Gun Sight (maybe) Texas. I just remember, we took the Breckenridge exit off 20 and then wound around for a while. I tried to find it again, but could not. She was such a hoot and we got into a lot of trouble together :) I was the "new girl" at Mann Jr. High in the 9th Grade. Joy and I had choir together and we became good friends right away. It's funny because she was so thin and I was not :) and she was on the quiet side and I was not. In high school, she, Jenny, Melinda McNeil and I had some really fun times.
After high school, she was married a couple of times but never really found what she was looking for. She had lots of troubles and they just seemed to take her over. Then the death of her mom really affected her and she was never quite the same. I always had the dread of getting a call about her being ill, but I wasn't ready for the call about her passing. She was a good friend and these past 15 years since her death, I have thought of her often. I hope she is finally at peace & I hope she is smiling.

Well Lou...our 40th has come and gone. It was a great one and I know you would have had crazy fun. Everyone looked so good and even tho there are some classmates that have major problems...it was just a time of remembering the easier days and that is important.
Of course, Patton snuck in a margarita machine so his room was busy all the time! We were next door and the overflow camped out there and it was great! Melinda and Jenny of course acted up and they are now in a 12 step program :) Wish I could keep up with them, but it is fun even on the sidelines.
We missed you girl. I thought of you a lot and wished you were there being silly with us. But don't you worry, we will catch up with you later!
Much much love, Barb
