Even though we were best girlfriends in high school, George Ann and I went our separate ways and lost track of one another after graduation. I never got her out of my system though, and once I was settled into my 40s, I was determined to track her down.  My research found that she had lived with her first husband in Wheaton, Illinois for a while, had divorced, and had two children who were about the same age as my two children. I finally found a phone number for her and discovered that she lived in Farmers Branch when I lived in Denton. Needless to say, we instantly resumed our best friend status with one another and never missed opportunities to visit or keep in touch by phone.

George Ann was one of those fabulously resilient women who never let the world bring her down, in spite of her many hardships. Even after the death of her husband Harry, who was truly the love of her life, she bounced back and never failed to share that contagious laugh she was so well known for.

I attended George Ann's memorial service in June and was fortunate to be with her very loving family.  It was a time of joy and celebration of George Ann's life and the love she shared with all.  The parting message was to remember George Ann by feeding the birds....such a fitting memorial for my dear friend.
